We Will Forget Soon

Denied memories of the Red Army in East Germany a photographic project by Stefano Corso and Dario-Jacopo Laganà.   Historical Background: 1994 - 2014. The 20th anniversary of the Red Army’s withdrawal from East Germany. The withdrawal of the Soviet/Russian Western Group of Forces, which occupied Germany from 1945 until the fall of 1994, took more than 3 years to move half million people back to the ex-Soviet Union. September 2014 has been the 20th anniversary of the last group of Officials leaving the country. The most powerful of Soviet military forces since 1945 had been dismantled. Its military units were either dissolved or relocated to Belarus, the Russian Federation or to Ukraine.       Concept: This project aims to tell about the actual situation of the places that used to be under Soviet control. A survey of the places that were once barracks, hospitals, gyms, schools, military cities, KGB prisons as well as the soviet memorials scattered around the ex-DDR territory. All these buildings are changing their aspect or their use in all kind of ways, some have been renovated as houses or museums, others have been reused as military bases, others are just been abandoned in the forest and now […]

Berlin Today: The Future of Metropolis

“Berlin Heute: the future of Metropolis”   While solemnly pacing towards the future with heavy steps, Berlin had to free itself from a long, complex and uncomfortable past. At a crossroad between historical landscapes and radical changes, the city portrays the ideological and social essence of European history, along with a socioeconomic evolution placing it as a cultural landmark.     Stefano Corso’s research begins with the iconoclastic “Metropolis” by Fritz Lang, a cinematic prophecy of the city's future. Through his pictures, Stefano Corso conjures the visionary atmospheres of today’s metropolis, once again reunited and yet constantly settling on new balances. The historical memory of symbolic places shows through shadows and lights the difficult passage of reconstruction and the vision of new possible landscapes. Places scarred by events are now at peace with their own history, architectural spaces are now read again through the sign of modernity, a sign in which man precariously walks suspended between old and new, looking for a new dimension and yet deeply rooted within his own past.    Exhibitions October 14th - November 14th 2014 European Month of Photography Berlin   Italian Cultural InstituteHildebrandstraße 2, 10785 Berlin, Germania   With the friendly support of the […]
